Under the Goins Administration: A Historic Achievement for the Fire Department
For the first time in the history of Alton’s Fire Department, a labor contract was successfully negotiated, agreed upon, and signed before the expiration of the existing contract. This groundbreaking accomplishment not only spared the city from the complexities and challenges of calculating retroactive pay for all department members but also resulted in significant savings—both in legal fees and in the overall costs for both parties.
This landmark agreement was achieved by three trailblazing African American leaders on March 29, 2022, marking a pivotal moment in the administration’s commitment to fostering collaboration and efficiency within the city’s workforce.
